Commissioners agreed to a $297,500 settlement with Sylvia Copeland, a Buffalo resident, who was injured during a 2005 bus-car accident. The insurance company for the car’s driver, also agreed to pay Copeland a $52,500 settlement. Copeland had sought a $1.5 million settlement, but lawyers representing the NFTA and the other driver, negotiated a $350,000 payment.

Copeland was a passenger on a Main Street bus when it collided with the other car. Copeland suffered a myriad of injuries and has been unable to work since the accident.

“Considering the circumstances, we feel this was an excellent settlement,” said Larry Meckler, NFTA executive director.
