A Macomb County Circuit Court jury that never knew Chrysler L.L.C. was financially responsible in a truck crash injury case returned a $5.65 million verdict after deliberating less than three hours. The lawsuit was brought against Roy Bates II, who accidentally ran over his friend, Anthony Broeren, with a Dodge Ram pickup truck, causing serious injuries.

The men were returning home from a week of deer hunting in central Michigan when Bates stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake pedal while backing up, slamming Broeren headfirst into the cabin, then dragging him when the truck was put into drive.
